DoSE examining all GHSS Phek issues

Dimapur, August 6 (MExN): The Department of School Education is seriously examining the concerns expressed by the Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) in regards to functioning of Government Higher Secondary School, Phek, Principal Director Thavaseelan K informed on Saturday.

Earlier on August 4, the PTYS had closed down the GHSS citing the government’s “lackadaisical attitude” towards deploying teachers and staff to make up for the vacancies arising out of transfers, retirement or death.
In this connection, the Principal Director, in a press release, stated that the new Principal posted to GHSS Phek has already assumed charge on August 4. “A Vice-Principal was heading the School until the Principal took over. Further, the Department has posted a Post Graduate Teacher (Tenyidie) to GHSS, Phek,” the release stated.
“At present, GHSS Phek has a total enrolment of 585 students from Classes 7 to 12. There are 23 Post Graduate Teachers (2 Geography, 2 Political Science, 2 Education, 1 Economics, 2 History, 1 Hindi, 4 English, 2 Chemistry, 1 Physics, 1 Botany, 1 Zoology, 2 Maths & 2 Computer Science) and 8 Graduate Teachers (2 Social Science, 1 English, 3 Science, 1 Maths, 1 Hindi),” as per the release.
In connection with the recent transfer of two teachers, the Principal Director explained that the transfer was necessitated in order to activate the Science Stream which is being offered at GHSS Peren, GHSS Longleng and GHSS Kiphire from the current academic year. As such, one Post Graduate Teacher each in Chemistry and Maths have been transferred from GHSS Phek and posted to GHSS Peren and GHSS Kiphire respectively, to meet the demand of the students, he informed.
“Post the recent transfer and posting, the School (GHSS Phek) will have 22 PGTs and 8 GTs totalling 30 teachers in all,” he said, adding that there is sufficient number of teachers to run the school smoothly.
Further, the Department vide a Notification has reiterated that all PGTs are to teach Classes 9 and 10 in the relevant or general subjects as per the Nagaland School Education Service Rules 2017, he added.
Meanwhile, he also informed that the Department, at present, has a shortage of PGTs which is being addressed. “The Department has recently placed requisition for 116 posts of PGTs with the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) to meet the needs of newly upgraded GHSSs,” he said, while assuring that all issues raised by the PTYS would be addressed in conformity with the Department’s norms.
