Kohima, June 21 (MExN): The Department of School Education (DoSE), on June 21, denied allegations of “arbitrary” action levelled by All Nagaland Hindi Students’ Union (ANHSU) regarding a recent advertisement.
The advertisement dated March 16, among others, invited applications from interested eligible candidates for 58 Hindi graduate teachers (GTs), and the written examination for the same is scheduled on July 7.
In a press release, the DoSE clarified that the “requisite qualifications prescribed in the advertisement for the post of Graduate Teacher (Hindi) are as per the Nagaland School Education Service Rules 2017 and cannot be termed as arbitrary.”
According to the department, the advertisement invited application from “Graduate/Post Graduate (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks (relaxable by 5 % in the case of ST/SC/ differently-abled candidates) either in Graduation or in Post-Graduation with Hindi as an elective subject at the Bachelor’s degree level from a recognised university.
It further prescribed for “B.Ed/B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed from any National Council of Teachers Education recognised institution.”
“Nowhere in the advertisement, it was mentioned that B.Ed in Hindi (Parangat) alone will be accepted. B.Ed course can either be in English or Hindi for Graduates in Hindi or its equivalent,” the DoSE stated.
With regard to Ratna, the department maintained that it is equivalent to one “language subject in graduation but not equivalent to graduation.”
Any Graduate with Ratna and BEd (Bachelor of Education) is eligible to apply for the post, it informed, while pointing out that “those having Ratna alone without Graduation are not eligible to pursue the B. Ed offered by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) recognised Institutions/Universities.”
Meanwhile, with regard the indigenity of the applicants, the DoSE clarified that the decision to allow non-indigenous inhabitants to apply for the post was taken by the State Cabinet to address the shortage of Hindi GTs as initially “only 7 indigenous inhabitant candidates were found to be eligible against the 58 vacancies” advertised on March 16.
However, 24 indigenous inhabitant candidates possessed the “requisite educational and professional qualifications as per the response to the revised advertisement” issued on May 30, added the press release issued by Thavaseelan K, Principal Director, DoSE.
