Wokha, November 9 (MExN): The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) monthly meeting was held at Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall, Wokha on November 9. Vice Chairman, DPDB Wokha & DC, Orenthung Lotha chaired the meeting.
Mount Tiyi College, Principal, Libanthung Ngullie highlighted the activities of the college through power point presentation where he stated that Mount Tiyi College is the only Government College in Wokha District, established in 1974 as a private college which initially provided PU (Arts) course under NEHU, and later upgraded to degree level in 1979. The college was taken over by the State Government in 1987 and affiliated to the Nagaland University in 1995.
According to a DIPR report, Ngullie stated that the college is committed to educate the students from all backgrounds and helps them explore possibilities, advance knowledge and engage them in self and social growth. It strives to innovate effective ways to create a learner-centred environment for all minds to interact, assimilate and pursue excellence, he added.
Highlighting some of the achievements during the recent years, Ngullie said that black topping of road from the college gate to the main building was successfully completed with the contribution by Dy Chief Minister and Minister for Home & PWD, Y Patton.
The college has also completed women’s hostel extension, construction of basketball court, boys hostel extension under RUSA, construction of indoor badminton stadium, roofing of the main building, Tribal Museums successfully set up, 8 lane running track under construction, introduced honours in all the six subjects, online examination done with 98.76% pass, NAAC assessment successfully carried out.
He also highlighted on the facilities provided by the college including hostel for boys and girls, sports facilities like volleyball court, basket ball court, indoor stadium, eight lane running track (under construction), library facilities, automated library with e-books and internet facilities, computers lab with internet facilities, smart class room (4 classrooms), photocopy facilities with three xerox machines, generator facilities, conference room, tribal museum, smart board – 2 numbers, bio-metric machine for attendance recording, aqua guard (4 numbers) for clean drinking water, canteen facilities, IGNOU study centre, common room for boys and girls, two college buses.
“To turn the college into a centre of excellence catering to the needs of the district and also of the neighbouring districts,” he urged all to extend support and cooperation.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer, PHED informed that departments wanting to avail new pipeline and water connection are requested to submit application for the same.
The ADC & Administrator, Wokha Town Council also informed the board that proposal for construction of approach roads leading to important locations within the town area have already been submitted to Department of Urban Development for consideration.
