While colleges and schools organized in-campus programs and plantation drives for World Environment Day, Delhi Public School, Dimapur decided to take the show on the road and impact the people visually. The school celebrated the Day by taking out a procession from Walford Junction to Khermahal Junction. Basing on the theme ‘Think, Eat and Save,’ the procession was brought forward by the senior students of Class 6 to 12 and the teachers with a message to take care of the environment and the judicious use of the resources.
On asking the students on the purpose of the event, the replies spiraled around making people aware of the environment. Prithvi of Class 7 said, “We are glad to be doing a part in spreading awareness through this procession” while Akina Sumi, Class 10 spoke of the theme saying, “We should think before we eat and save for the future. We are also performing street plays to get the purpose of the event understood better.” The plays were performed at Walford Junction and City Tower Junction.
Mr. B. K Nanda, Principal, DPS said, “People tend to forget things quickly especially on issues regarding environment. Other things like mobilization, economy, corruption, etc take priority among discussions and awareness on saving the environment is given a back seat. Children are the medium of change and through the tableaus and the procession; we hope to remind the elders about environmental change and proper use of resources which is really important for our future.” On the event, he is optimistic that the message will be put across to everyone on the streets and will impact the mind of the elders.
The message of the event was intimated to the people through the program that was put together by the School. Another procession was also taken out by the junior students from 2 1/2 Mile Junction to Darogapathar Village on a similar note for sensitizing the people about the environment.
