Dimapur, September 9 (MExN): The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has expressed deep concern over what it described as the increasing incidents of vandalism and damage to public property in Dimapur and called for immediate intervention from the Police Department.
In a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, the DUCCF noted that public assets such as road dividers, streetlights, government buildings, and community facilities are created for the benefit of all citizens.
Acts of vandalism, it stated, not only cause heavy financial losses to the government but also inconvenience the general public.
The Federation reminded that damaging public property is punishable under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, and erstwhile Section 427 of the Indian Penal Code (now BNS Section 324 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita).
It urged the Police Department to initiate strict legal action against individuals or groups involved, strengthen monitoring across the town, and install CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas.
Further, DUCCF appealed to the public to respect and protect public assets while urging the authorities to spread awareness on the legal consequences of vandalising public property.
