‘Empower women for cultural heritage’

Women took center stage on the final day of the Aoleang-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival 2019, which was celebrated on the theme 'Empowering Women for Cultural Heritage.' 

Speaking on the occasion, Eastern Naga Women’s Organization (ENWO) president, Ayong Chang who was the guest of honour said empowering women for cultural heritage has rich dividends as women play an important and crucial role in maintaining the social, economic and cultural health of the community. 

Women in indigenous communities are important producers and re-producers of family life, thus carrying out a significant role in transmitting cultural values to future generations. The creativity of women is essential to the continuity and revitalization of intangible cultural expressions, she pointed out.

Special guest, N. Neshe Bongkhao urged the women folk to face the challenges in life with confidence, choose the battles with wisdom and to never forget the power that women holds to transform the society.

Special invitee, Her highness, Angun, Queen of Chi, invoked traditional blessings.
