TUENSANG, MARCH 18 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has informed all the delegates, who will be attending the “Eastern Nagaland Public Meeting” in Tuensang on March 19 to avoid using government vehicles. The advisory issued by the Eastern Nagaland Public Emergency Control Room asked the delegates to only travel in private vehicles. The delegates/invitees were also advised against bringing personal bodyguards.

On account of the meeting, all business establishments and public movement, including educational institutions within Tuensang town will remain shut. Delegates coming to the meeting, medical emergencies and Fire and Emergency Services will be exempt from the purview of the shutdown, it added.

The ENPO had asked all the frontal organisations of its affiliates, the 20 legislators from the six eastern districts and the Rajya Sabha Member to attend the March 19 meeting. The 20 legislators, under the banner of the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU), however expressed inability to meet the March 19 date.

The March 19 meeting was originally set to occur on March 14 but was rescheduled to March 19 by the ENPO on account of the ENLU scheduling a trip to Delhi on March 15. As told by the ENLU Secretary, Lima Onen Chang, the purpose of the Delhi trip was to meet the team constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs to directly negotiate with the ENPO on the matter of the proposed Frontier Naga Territory.

It subsequently wrote to the ENPO on March 16, requesting to defer the meeting. “I, on behalf of the 20 legislators would like to draw your kind attention that the 20 legislators are currently camping in Delhi to meet the central leaders with regard to our issue for which an appointment has been sought and awaited,” stated the letter from the ENLU Secretary. It said that a convenient date and venue will be intimated to the ENPO for the joint meeting.

There was no word from the ENLU as on March 18. But sources said that they have met AK Mishra, the head of the 3-member MHA team and were scheduled to meet the Union Home Secretary on Monday evening.
