Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland People's Union Dimapur (ENPUD) has urged Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio to issue work orders for the second phase of the Foothills Road project by March 31, 2026, in compliance with an ultimatum set by Dimapur-based civil society organisations (CSOs) on February 21.
In a statement, the ENPUD said adhering to the deadline was necessary “to avoid any confrontations and misunderstanding that may arise due to the non-compliance.”
The organisation also requested the chief minister to invite members of the Naga Frontal Civil Council (NFRCC) as stakeholders to a meeting convened on March 31, 2026, to discuss issues related to the Foothills Road. The ENPUD noted that the NFRCC had been making “immense sacrifice” for the road project since 2013.
The ENPUD further resolved to extend full support to any steps taken by the Dimapur-based CSOs once the ultimatum expires. However, it expressed confidence in “the wisdom and sincerity” of the chief minister to resolve the matter amicably.
The union, which comprises eight tribal units—Chang Union Dimapur, Eastern Sumi Union Dimapur, Khiamniungan Union Dimapur, Konyak Union Dimapur, Dimapur Phom Union, Sangtam Union Dimapur, Tikhir Union Dimapur, and Yimkhiung Union Dimapur—also appreciated the chief minister for prioritising the Foothills Road as a “People’s Road Project.”
“This will greatly enhance the connectivity between different parts of Nagaland and improve the quality of socio-economic life of the people,” the statement from the ENPUD’s media cell added.
