The 8th Cultural Fiesta cum General Conference of the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF) on the third day (April 17) showcased athletic spirit and cultural unity, as participants from the federation’s eight units gathered for a day marked by a marathon race, competitive volleyball matches and motivational speeches.
The day began with the ENSF marathon held under the theme “Ever Forward.” The event was addressed by ENSF Assistant Sports Secretary, who welcomed the runners and encouraged the youth to embody the spirit of perseverance. The flag-off was initiated by the Project Director of DRDA Tuensang.
In the women’s category, Tsuchoi clinched first place, followed by Niansai T in second and P Jelliam in third. In the men’s category, Shiangjiu T secured the top position, with Sochi taking second place and Thungti Mopo finishing third.
Later in the day, inter-federating unit volleyball matches drew large crowds to the venue. Eight student federations fielded teams in both men’s and women’s categories.
The inaugural segment of the volleyball event opened with prayers and a welcome address by the ENSF Assistant General Secretary, who conveyed greetings on behalf of the federation.
Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, S Keoshu Yimchunger, who attended the event as the special guest, in his speech, highlighted the vital role of sports in personal development and national representation. He pointed out that while government job opportunities are increasingly merit-based, sports also provide a promising career path through the sports quota currently being strengthened by the state government.
“Sports instill discipline, teamwork, and determination,” he said. “Our region is blessed with physical potential. If we nurture these talents, we will see more athletes rise to national and international platforms.”
He also made a special appeal to young girls, encouraging them to step forward and lead. Referencing recent achievements by Naga women at the Sepaktakraw World Cup, he urged participants to pursue excellence with confidence.
The volleyball matches concluded with high-stakes finals in both categories. In the men’s division, the Phom Students’ Conference emerged as champions after a close match against Chang Wedoshi Setshang, who took second place. In the women’s division, the Konyak Students’ Union claimed the championship title, while the Khiamniungan Students’ Union finished runners-up.
The day concluded with a friendly football exhibition match between ENSF and officials from the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union.
