‘Every district will have one The Lighthouse School’

Samagra Shiksha Nagaland conducts block level training for SMC, SMDC in Kohima

The Nagaland Education Mission Society under the aegis of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland today conducted a one day block level training for the members of School Management Committee (SMC) & School Management & Development Committee (SMDC) under Educational Block Resource Centre (EBRC), L.Khel Kohima at D. Khel Badminton Stadium, Kohima village.

Addressing the gathering, Avelu Ruho, Joint Secretary, Department of School Education Nagaland and Deputy Project Director, Nagaland Education Project (NEP)- The Lighthouse sensitized the representatives of SMC and SMDC on the background of NEP-The Lighthouse.

With support from World Bank, the Department of School Education launched the ‘Nagaland Education Project- The Lighthouse – Nagaland Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources (NECTAR)’, with the aim to improve and enhance quality and learning outcomes of government schools in Nagaland.
 
‘The Lighthouse School’ soon
Ruho said that every district in Nagaland will have one each ‘The Lighthouse School’ soon. In this, she said, the ground work for selection of such school has already started. The Lighthouse School will facilitate proper residential school.

She also informed that all the 1953 government schools in Nagaland are eligible to apply for performance incentive grants. In this, she asked all the concerned to start designing their project, which is likely to roll out by June this year.
 
Call for maintaining accurate school data
In keynote address, Kelhikha Kenye, Deputy Mission Director, State Mission Authority, highlighted various schemes and initiatives of Samagra Shiksha which is being implemented across the state through Nagaland Education Mission Society.

Touching on Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE), Kenye called for maintaining an accurate school data.

U-DISE is a database about schools in India. The database was developed at the Department of School Education, MHRD, Government of India and Maintained by National Informatics Centre, Government of India.

Stating that every school programme and planning process is now being done through UDICE, he called upon the SMC and SMDC to have correct data in order to avail various facilities for the students and also to ensure effective management of the schools.

Kenye called for proper management of the school library and also to encourage the students to develop good reading habits. He also called for proper utilization of Composite School Grants.

Kenye stressed on the need to adopt proper school safety and security plan to avoid casualty in the event of disasters strike.

Other resource persons highlighted the background of NIPUN-Bharat Mission, Vocational Education, Inclusive Education, Out of School Children, School Development Plan, COVID SoPs, RTE and National Education Policy 2020.
