Dimapur, April 8 (MExN): The NH-29 Land Owners Union (Purana Bazaar to Chümoukedima) has resolved to submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, reminding him to “expedite the compensation process” for the specified land owners.

This was decided at an executive meeting of the Union on April 6 at the Charity Residential School Library Hall in 5th Mile here. A press release from the Union’s Information and Publicity Secretary, Kewetso Kenye, informed that “no compensation has been made to the land owners either before or after the declaration of NH-29 as a National Highway.”

Attention was also brought to the High Court Judgement Order No. W.P. (C) No.98 (K) 2000 dated 25-09-2000 which stated that “the matter involves public importance as such, should be resolved amicably without further delay by assessing the market value of the land and make compensation to the land owners.” However, noted the Unoin, the Nagaland State Government “till date remains indifferent to the High Court Judgement.”

The Union also stated that it is “not against developmental activities, but should any eventualities arise out of the negligence of the Government, the Union won't hesitate to initiate appropriate measure to safeguard the rights of the land owners.”

It further appealed to citizens to “extend their support as the matter involves protection of an inalienable individual's right.”
