Urges patience with political process at ‘sensitive point’
Dimapur, May 4 (MExN): The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has clarified that it is neither organising nor has it consented, "at this point in time," to be a part of the “Common Platform For Resolving Indo-Naga Political Issue” slated to be held on May 14, at Agri Expo, Chümoukedima.
“While the quest for Nagas to come together is clearly undisputed and needs careful and thoughtful steering,” the May 14 event is not organised by the FNR, nor has it “come to the point of consenting, at this point in time, to be a part of this programme,” the Forum stated in a press release.
Instead, the FNR pointed out that a virtuous work needs the support of every Naga organisation, and more time is needed.
Though it has not made it public, the Forum further underscored that the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) and Naga Tribal Hohos have already held nine rounds of meetings since January 14, 2025, based on the “Historical and Political rights of the Nagas.”
“We are in the midst of a process, and we have reached a sensitive point, which needs more time. More meetings are on the schedule,” it added.
Accordingly, the FNR makes it public that all Nagas “must come together,” ensuring no one is excluded.
However, it emphasised the need for patience and understanding of each other’s challenges, to avoid faltering in the future.
“What we have garnered, with much toil, must not be allowed to slip by. One core conviction is clear: Doors must be kept open for the future,” it declared.
To this end, the Forum highlighted that the NPGs, the Tribal Hohos, and the FNR wish all to honour the “Covenant of Reconciliation."
The FNR issued its clarification following the circulation of a poster on social media announcing a May 14 event titled “Common Platform for Resolving Indo-Naga Political Issue Based on Framework Agreement & Agreed Position.” However, no official statement from the organisers had been received at the time of filing this report.
