Federation urges State govt to implement ‘no work, no pay’ policy
Kohima, June 29 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Tuesday urged the State government to strictly implement the ‘no work, no pay’ policy, in the wake of teachers reportedly ‘neglecting’ their duties during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press communiqué appended by its President and General Secretary, the Federation acknowledged that the pandemic-induced lockdown has caused untold hardships to the entire populace.
However, it noted that the education sector is the worst impacted, “threatening to throw the future of the students in jeopardy.”
The NSF asserted that the future of the students and the society cannot be compromised despite the raging pandemic and called for every possible effort to be taken by all the stakeholders in order to salvage the grim situation.
In light of the above, NSF informed that its officials held a discussion with Shanavas C, Principal Director, School Education, and placed a charter of representation.
“It has come to the knowledge of the federation that most of the teachers employed by the state government has been neglecting their duties even while online classes has been on in full swing,” the Federation stated in its representation. It stated that such dereliction of duties reflects badly on the noble profession. As such, the NSF urged the State government to strictly implement ‘no work, no pay’ policy.
Further, it also appealed the State government to issue an official order with regard to fee waiver by all the schools in the State. This should be issued in line with the successive court orders, it added.
According to the communiqué, the Principal Director gave a patient hearing and assured that steps towards the right direction shall be taken by the department concerned and the State government at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the NSF made an appeal to all the educated youths, particularly in the rural sector, to play a proactive role in imparting education to the student community affected by the ongoing shutdown of educational institutions.
The federation also urged parents of students who are economically sound to pay off the school fees of their ward(s) on time so that the continuous cycle of teaching-learning process remains unaffected.
The Federation acknowledged and appreciated the Catholic community of Nagaland and all other educational institutions which came forward to help the needy students in the form of fee waiver during the previous academic year.
