GoI, GPRN/NSCN, GPRN/NSCN (K) & NSCN (R) extend ceasefires

DIMAPUR, APRIL 16 (MExN): The ceasefire agreements between the Government of India, the GPRN/NSCN, the NSCN (K) Khango (GPRN/NSCN -K)) and the NSCN (R) have been extended for a period of six months.

A press release from the MIP of the GPRN/NSCN informed that its ceasefire with the Government of India was extended till October 27.

It stated that “while constantly deliberating for a lasting peace in the land of the Nagas with the involvement of the Naga people,” normal proceedings between the GPRN/NSCN and the Government of India has been “unfortunately hampered” due to unprecedented global COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

Despite this, on April 16, “in the spirit of seriousness to maintain chain of peace in the state and modalities of resolving issues, Ceasefire between GPRN/NSCN and GoI is being mutually extended for a period of six months with effect from April 28 till October 27 with subjection to adherence to Ceasefire Ground Rules,” the press release stated.

Meanwhile, a joint statement from the NSCN (K) Khango CFSB Supervisor, Shellen Konyak; Secretary, Kaino Chishi; and the Government of India’s CFSB Chairman, Lt General Shokin Chauhan informed that the ceasefire between the two entities was extended till October 17. The extension of ceasefire was signed in Kohima on April 16.

“The ceasefire will be subject to adherence to the Ceasefire Ground Rules mutually agreed and signed by both sides. The Ceasefire Ground Rules will be subject to mutual review and amendment with the involvement of both the parties,” it added.

In a separate press release, the NSCN (R) informed that its ceasefire with the GoI has been extended till October 27.

“The NSCN (R) cannot ignore the People's cry for peace, and if at all, we don't listen to the People's Voice, how can we claim that we are representing them,” the press release stated.

Meanwhile both parties agreed to adhere to the laid down Ceasefire Ground Rules in all seriousness and fairness.

The document was signed by Dr Amento Chishi, CFSB Supervisor; and Toshi Longkumer, CFSB Secretary representing the NSCN (R) while Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan (Chairman, CFSB) signed for the Government of India.
