Kohima, June 30 (MExN): The descendants (children) of Nuteiü (Nuteiü-nuomia) conducted a goodwill gesture and visited orphanages and old age home in and around Kohima on June 25.
Some of the beneficiaries were Eden Garden, Khuzama; Kohima Orphanage, Seithogei; Merhünuoko Ki, North block, Keziekie; and Old Age home, Meriema.
In a press release received here, Dr Phyobemo Ngullie (grandson of Nuteiü) said, ‘As a young boy, living with Atsa Nuteiü at Dhobi lane, presently called Daklane, during the early 1960’s, when Nagaland state was just created. There were lots of curfews with regular cross firing between the Naga arms forces and the Indian military. The situation was such that, it was similar with our current situation whereby, we are unable to go out to earn or work. During that time, Atsa Nuteiü used to regularly send me on errands to share some dal and rice with the Dhobi families nearby. And sometimes she would send me to share some vegetables and other stuffs with other neighbours etc.’
“Looking at this pandemic situation, we are in a similar situation where many of our brethren’s need our care and concern. Therefore, as a gesture of goodwill and care, we visited a few care homes in and around Kohima to share some essentials and enquire on their wellbeing,” the release added.
