Nagaland Government is committed to empower Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)and to ensure their full and effective participation and inclusion in society, stated Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today.

Towards this end, the State Government has notified the Nagaland Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules 2019, he highlighted while presenting the State Budget 2021-22 at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on February 18.

He further claimed that the government has increased reservation for PwDs in government jobs from 3 percent to 4 percent and notified Inclusive Education to Children with Disabilities by all educational institutions funded or recognised by the State Government.

In a first, a Blind Football Demo-cum-Training Camp was conducted in 2020 by the Office of the State Commissioner for PwDs in collaboration with the Indian Blind Football Federation, he said.

Promotion of disability sports is a priority and the State Government have already instituted a separate Committee under the Nagaland Olympic Association for PwDs, he added.
