Govt passes 5322.88 Crore Nagaland budget

The Fourth session of the eleventh Nagaland Legislative Assembly today passed the budget for fiscal 2009-2010 amounting to Rs. 5322.88 crore. The amount would be utilized in defraying several charges that would come in the course of payment during the year ending March 31, 2010 in respect of  80 government departments in the state. The budget was passed by voice-vote after the opposition Congress raised at least 25 objections to various departmental demands for grant.

Subsequently, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who also holds the Finance portfolio, introduced the Nagaland Appropriation (No. 5) Bill, 2009 which was put to vote by NLA Speaker Kiyanilie and passed by voice vote. The bill authorizes the government to withdraw the said amount from the consolidated fund of the state. Mention may be made here that Rio, while presenting the budget for the fiscal 2009-2010 on the first day of session, had estimated the transactions to end with a deficit of Rs. 494.23 crore.

4th NLA concludes 
The fourth session of the 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly has been adjourned. The seven-day session, with two-days break in between, also witnessed consideration and passing of bills including the Nagaland Retirement from Public Employment (Second Amendment) Bill 2009, Nagaland Motor Vehicles One Time Taxation (3rd Amendment) Bill 2009, Nagaland Government Servants (Transfer & Posting) Bill 2009 and the Nagaland Appropriation Bill 2009. The session was also marked by discussions and voting on Demands for Grants for the year 2009-10 and  general discussions on the budget.
