GPRN/NNC (AB) cautions against divisive propaganda

Dimapur, September 1 (MExN): The GPRN/NNC (AB) under the Collective Leadership convened an emergency meeting in Dimapur on September 1 following what it described as recent attempts to tarnish the image and credibility of the government. The meeting resulted in a unanimous resolution to take disciplinary action against individuals engaged in activities deemed detrimental to the unity and stability of the organization.

In a statement, President SS Pongkhu Naga referred to remarks made by Kitoho H. Zhimomi on August 31. “His present claim to be the founder of GPRN/NNC (AB) is entirely unfounded, unlawful and he should be ashamed to the people of Nagas,” it said. It further stated, “The Naga people should not be misled by the baseless propaganda circulated in the name of GPRN/NNC (AB).”

The Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP) noted that Pongkhu has been serving the Naga national movement since 1986, long before the recent defectors joined. “It is therefore laughable for those who joined in recent years to question the legitimacy of a leader who carried the burdend of the Nation for decades,” it stated. The MIP added that no termination of the President has been carried out by the NNPGs or any other political platform.

“His actions are individual attempts to defame the government and mislead the people,” it said. The GPRN/NNC (AB) further alleged that Zhimomi’s accusations against the NNPGs were contributing to division among political groups, especially when efforts are underway to unify for a peaceful and honorable solution to the Naga political issue.

“The Naga national workers and the public must remain vigilant against such divisive propaganda. The sacrifices of thousands of patriots cannot be dishonored by a few who place personal ambition above national interest,” the statement read. It reaffirmed that the Apex Body under Pongkhu “firmly stands committed to safeguarding the honour, integrity, and true spirit of the Naga national movement.”

General Secretary V Yepthomi also issued a clarification. “Let it be clear: our government remains firm and unshakable under the leadership of President SS Pongkhu Naga,” he said. Yepthomi reaffirmed that the resolution passed on August 29 (Resolution No. 1) was fully in effect, and directed all Town Commanders and Regional Presidents to resume duties without delay and safeguard the dignity and discipline of the organization.

In a joint statement, the President and General Secretary appealed to political groups. “It has come to our attention that certain cadres from other groups have aligned themselves with Kitoho H. Zhimomi, who no longer holds any legitimate position within the GPRN/NNC (AB). Such alignments are not only unlawful but also risk further destabilizing our collective struggle. We urge all leadership bodies to rein in their members before such actions escalate into larger conflicts or misinterpretations.”

The GPRN/NNC (AB) reiterated its “unwavering commitment to its core principles of governance, unity, and the greater aspirations of the Naga people,” stating that it will not tolerate any act, internal or external, that threatens the integrity or collective vision of the Naga struggle.
