DIMAPUR, AUGUST 30 (MExN): The GPRN/NNC (AB), under President SS Pongkhu Naga and General Secretary V. Yepthomi, convened an emergency meeting on August 30 with the Council of Kilonsers, Collective Leadership, Regional Presidents and party members at the President’s residence to address recent violent incidents and reaffirm its commitment to Naga reconciliation.
A press release issued by its MIP stated that the meeting underscored the government’s continued focus on “Naga Reconciliation – A Journey for Common Hope” and highlighted its active participation in 16 official meetings under the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), aimed at fostering unity and mutual respect among Naga political groups, including the latest at Ungma village.
It also detailed two grave incidents of threat and violence allegedly involving Kitoho H. Zhimomi. On August 19, during the induction ceremony of the newly appointed General Secretary at the President’s residence, Kitoho and several armed cadres, carrying one .32 pistol and three .22 pistols, reportedly fired shots as a threat to the President and General Secretary. When questioned by the Chief of Army, they allegedly opened fire again.
On August 21, around midnight, Kitoho again led armed cadres to surround the President’s residence, although the President was out of station. The GPRN/NNC (AB) described these actions as criminal, posing a serious threat to leadership and the peace process under the FNR.
The GPRN/NNC (AB) clarified that Kitoho H. Zhimomi, formerly a tax collector and briefly Home Kilonser, had engaged in financial misconduct and left the Government to avoid accountability. The Government emphasized that Kitoho is no longer affiliated with, nor authorized to represent, the GPRN/NNC (AB).
On this, it has cautioned the public establishments, markets and individuals not to engage with Kitoho or anyone falsely claiming to represent the GPRN/NNC (AB). Unauthorized use of the Government’s name or authority will attract strict action, it added.
