Handicrafts artisans attend workshop on schemes, GI registration, E–Commerce etc

Dimapur, September 23 (MExN): The second and one-day workshop on awareness on Schemes of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and GI registration, E–Commerce, GeM Portal, GST etc for artisans under Research & Development Schemes for the year 2021-22 was held at Hotel Aquila, Dimapur on September 22.

The workshop was organized by the office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, Handicrafts Service Centre Kohima, informed a press release. 

P Zuvito Waths, Managing Director, Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (NIDC) Government of Nagaland inaugurated the workshop. He expressed happiness to share with the participants to focus their targets for self sustainability since handicrafts is next to agriculture in the country. 

T Rollee Vareishim, Senior Assistant Director (H), HSC- Kohima highlighted and explained various schemes of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) for the artisans like National Award, market related programmes, workshops and trainings.  Temjenla Jamir, Managing Director, Nagaland Women Vocational Training Institute, Dimapur shared the usage of E-Commerce and benefits of artisans for marketing using the help of latest technology. 

Dr Mayonmi  Shimray,  Director In charge, Indira  Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Kohima Region shared the facilities of artisans for admission and studies with free study materials while working at home and receiving degrees upto graduation level in any stream. 

Tokatoli Sohe, Assistant Commissioner of State Taxes, Dimapur expressed the system and application of Goods and Services Tax (GST) for the importers and exporters of the Artisans. Viqheli Tsuqu, the empanelled Designer of DC (Handicrafts), NE Region explained the importance of design in handicrafts productions and encouraged the participants to apply suitable and meaningful designs in handicrafts productions so that market value is enhanced. 

Rajib Chandra Roy, Handicrafts Promotion Officer, HSC-Kohima shared the importance and necessity of Government e-Marketing (GeM) portal and registration of Geographical Indication (GI) of handicrafts so that duplicate of the item is avoided. 

The workshop concluded with vote of thanks by Kh Nipamacha Singh, UDC, HSC-Kohima.
