Dimapur | March 24
With March 25 the last day for filing nomination, uncertainty prevailed in the NPF and NPP camps as the two parties were yet to make final calls on whether to contest in the Lok Sabha polls.
While former BJP ST Morcha National Secretary, Hayithung Bill Lotha was reported to have got the NPP ticket with pictures also circulating on social media, the Nagaland state unit of the NPP maintained otherwise. Lotha is seen holding the NPP “Party Ticket” in the pictures.
NPP Nagaland state unit President Ato Yepthomi, when contacted on Sunday evening admitted to the NPP assuring the ticket to Lotha but maintained the party was still to give official sanction.
Lotha, who was last reported to be canvassing for the NPF ticket, could not be reached for comment however.
Meanwhile, the NPF camp remained quiet in the backdrop of the Congress claiming to have sought the NPF’s support for the LS polls. Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President K Therie told The Morung Express late Sunday evening that the Congress appealed the NPF for support as the two parties share common ground on the Citizenship Amendment Bill and the Indo-Naga political issues. “They (NPF) have agreed in principle on the issues but have not given a declaration officially on how to go about in terms of supporting the (Congress) candidate,” he said.
NPF spokesperson Achumbemo Kikon did not respond to calls for comment. So far, only the Congress and NDPP candidates have filed nominations for the Lok Sabha polls.
