The Naga Terriers in collaboration with Kigwema Students Union (KSU) commemorated International Youth Day by organizing a friendly football match at Kigwema Ground on August 12. 

Headhunters emerged as winners after beating the Kigwema Students Union in penalty with 3-1 after a tie breaker with 1-1 in the final play. 

The first match was between Phesama Students’ Union (PSU) and Headhunters, Assam Rifles second match was between Jakhama Students’ Union (JSU) and Kigwema Students’ Union (KSU).

Match Matron Col Neeraj Sood, Commanding officer, 164 (TA) Naga in his speech remarked that the day is an important day to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issue surrounding youngsters. 

He commented that the ‘day focuses on the rights of the young people to have full access to education, adequate healthcare, employment opportunities, financial services and full participation in public life.’ The commander added that with the society in general being in a climate of economic uncertainty, it is all the more important for countries to invest in opportunities for their youth to learn, earn and grow so that the common future life in good hands.

Along with ensuring their rights, one equally important goal of this day is to shape the youth not just as a passive beneficiary of development efforts, but as a force for positive social change.

Stating that the youths are a source of innovation, creativity, energy and foresight, he pointed out that member states must use all means possible to foster and harness the power of the youth. These are the ideals for international youth day.    Adding that the pandemic has impacted all sections of the population, severely affecting the young people, he noted that it has become even more important to pay attention to their issue. 

The opening remark was delivered by Mezhuvi Thorie, President Kigwema Students Union and special song was presented by Hornbill boys. Vote of thanks was delivered by Major Balwant Singh, 164 (TA) Naga. Earlier, Neipfelhou Thorie prayed for the programme.
