Hearing screening camp for students held in Phek

Dimapur, March 12 (MExN): To commemorate World Hearing Day which was held on March 3, an awareness-cum-screening camp was organised at Government Middle School Zion, Phek town under the theme “To hear for life, listen with care” on March 10.

In a press release issued by the District Media Officer, NHM Phek, Kutolu Nakro, it stated that Dr Zhimatho, ENT specialist from District Hospital Phek, treated and examined over 30 students during the screening camp. He also said that "hearing is precious but at the same time very fragile. It is very important to preserve this sensory organ to lead a normal life."

As per the WHO report 2021, “one in every 5 person has hearing impairment. Some of the common risk factors associated with hearing loss are use of earpiece or personal audio devices with smart phones, noise pollution and exposure to high pitch sound, and disease factors such as chronic ear infection, diabetes, hypertension, stroke and other conditions like head injury, obesity, and smoking habits.”
