HPC approves reopening of primary schools

The High Powered Committee (HPC) on COVID-19 headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio during its meeting held on Thursday has approved re-opening of primary schools for students Classes 1 to 5. This was informed by HPC Spokesperson and Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs minister Neiba Kronu. 

The date has not been fixed for re-opening for primary classes but a proper notification with detailed SOP would be issued by the School Education Department in consultation with the Health and Family Welfare Department within next 10 days, he said.

Government offices will resume functioning normally as the HPC has decided to allow hundred percent attendances which had earlier been curtailed to 50 percent due to the pandemic, he said, adding that it has also approved normal opening of theatres, public places, exhibitions, cinema halls and sports complexes. The HPC has also permitted commercial transport vehicles to ferry full capacity passengers and reverted the fares to normal rate, he said. The HPC also revoked quarantine of people, including tourists, entering into state from other parts of the country, except for those having symptoms to undergo medical check-up and screening need to follow the medical guidelines.
