Dimapur | July 15
The Nagaland government's Core Committee on the Naga Political Issue (CCoNPI) is all set to meet again on July 16 in Kohima. It will be the second meeting of the Core Committee this month after it last met on July 6 in the state capital.
In the words of Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister, the Core Committee will “have a serious discussion” even as the political parleys between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM), now in its 25th year, remain deadlocked unable to arrive at a consensus on the NSCN (IM)’s claim for a separate Naga flag and constitution as part of the anticipated solution.
Replying to media queries on the sideline of a programme today in Dimapur, Patton said that the issue of flag and constitution is “the main obstacle we are facing.”
“Unless NSCN (IM) comes forward for solution, we are helpless,” he commented, while stating, “Tomorrow we are going to have a serious discussion on this.”
According to him, the Core Committee’s effort would have no meaning unless the NSCN (IM) comes forward given the GoI’s stand on the demand for flag and constitution. While stating, “We need to come together,” he said, as far as the GoI is concerned, the talks concluded on October 31, 2019.
