Dimapur, February 6 (MExN): January 2025 was the warmest on record globally, with the average surface temperature 0.79°C above the 1991–2000 January average, the EU-funded Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) reported on Thursday.
"January 2025 is another surprising month, continuing the record temperatures observed throughout the last two years, despite the temporary cooling effect of La Niña conditions in the tropical Pacific," said Samantha Burgess, Deputy Director of the C3S.
Similar warming trends have been recorded in parts of South Asia. In Nagaland, India, key cities such as Kohima have experienced a noticeable shift this January. Historical data for Kohima shows that typical January highs have ranged between 16°C and 20°C with nighttime lows between 5°C and 7°C. However, January 2025 registered a daytime high of 21°C and nighttime lows around 8°C.
