Dimapur, March 5 (MExN): The Bokajan Multipurpose Traders & Farmers Welfare Society (BMTFWS) has alleged that Sharaual Shekh alias Munnai Bhai (President, DMPF), Gulam Babar (General Secretary, DMPF) and Sanjaar Shekh, with the help of their chief advisor, are “secretly planning” to restrict the “legal entry” of poultry birds (broiler) from Karbi Anglong, Assam, into Nagaland.
BMTFWS chairman, Ramesh Ojha and secretary, Chandan Phukan in a press statement alleged that they are planning to impose new taxes on poultry from Karbi Anglong with the help of some locals of Nagaland. According to the allegation, small traders and farmers of poultry have been repeatedly threatened and pressurized by miscreants to trade under their supervision.
“The poultry farmers of Karbi Anglong are earning their daily bread from this business but because of these selfish people, who are deliberately attempting to destroy their livelihood, these farmers shall have to starve. As a result of this, a chaotic situation may arise among them and also affect the good relation between the state of Nagaland and Assam,” the BMTFWS stated further.
On behalf of the traders and farmers, BMTFWS has appealed to the Government of Nagaland, DC Dimapur, Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers’ Association, NSF, DNSU, GB’s association, all other NGOs and voluntary organisations to look into the matter seriously and take appropriate action.
