Keeping the traditional practice alive, Kikrüma community and friendship villages from different parts of the state today came together to join in the village gate pulling ceremony here coinciding with Kürünyi festival.
Kikrüma, about 50 km far away from the state capital Kohima is the biggest village in Phek district.
Both old and young in their full traditional attires pulled the wooden structure village gate measuring four and half feet in breadth from 6km of a location called Küpandi.
Kikrüma Village Council chairman Vezohü Tünyi said the village gate helped build friendship, peace, unity, and most importantly acted as safeguard to the villagers in the event of any unfortunate dreadful ailments or warfare in the past. In the present society, he said, the village gate signifies the essence of better understanding, togetherness, peace and unity among the villagers and expressed happiness for the massive turnout of the villagers and well wishers from near and far.

A brief programme, held at Müzentsükü (Kohima View Point) Kikrüma was followed by Kürünyi feast.
This festival is observed from May 2-4 every year by the villagers. The festival is primarily to invoke the blessing from above for a favourable climate and productive yield of crops. No terrace cultivation is carried out prior to the observation of this festival. The festival is also a time to keep oneself stay healthy for taking up physical labour in the agricultural activities for the year.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Thipuzhoyo Thira, president, Kikrüma Razu Kühu. Several dignitaries including Naga Hoho general secretary Mutsikhoyo Yhobu, retired secretary youth resource & sports Sachopra Vero were also present on the occasion.
Representatives from friendship villages of P. Khel and T. Khel of Kohima village, Yoseba, Thipuzu, Mesulumi, Thenyizu, Porba, Sakhabama, Mezoma, Thetsumi, Lekromi, Kami, Pfutseromi, K. Basa, Sakraba and several others also joined the historic event.
