DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 10 (MExN): The N Kitovi Zhimomi led Working Committee, NNPGs has issued a statement today refuting a recent press release from the other WC NNPGs led by Gen (Retd) MB Neokpao with regard to the former’s “alleged removal” the Convener of the Working Committee. It termed the allegations in the statement as “baseless.”
It stated that during the meeting, in the absence of N Kitovi Zhimomi, several Co-Conveners were cautioned about potential legal action by some members of the Khehoi camp. “This warning was directed at those who expressed support for Zhimomi as the Convener of the Working Committee. Such actions are considered unprofessional and unethical, particularly given the responsibilities associated with leadership within the Khehoi camp,” it added.
It further cited an incident where a show-cause notice was issued to Toshi Walling, Co-Convener of the Working Committee, and Kiumukam, Co-Convener of the Working Committee, both of whom are signatories to the Agreed Position. “This action was taken by leaders who were neither part of, nor signatories to the Agreed Position, which reflects a lack of maturity in their approach,” the Kitovi led WC said.
It stressed that the Working Committee “remains outside the internal impeachment processes of leaders in their respective parties or groups.” “These internal matters are exclusively their own and do not compromise the integrity of the Working Committee. Historically, Isak Sumi, Ato Kilonser of NSCN (K), successfully navigated impeachment challenges from his party members on two separate occasions. To uphold the commitment of the Working Committee, he was allowed to continue his active participation in its proceedings. This same standard of support is applied to N Kitovi Zhimomi as well. The issue of his impeachment is a matter that pertains to internal organizational dynamics; therefore, his position as Convener of the Working Committee remains unaffected,” it said.
It meanwhile recognized the contributions of leaders who were instrumental in the establishment of the NNPGs. “The successful signing of the Agreed Position with the Government of India signifies the completion of the Working Committee's objectives, and as such, there are no further negotiations to be undertaken at this time with the GoI,” it said.
The Kitovi led WC said that the individuals who are signatories to the Agreed Position remain living and bear the responsibility of upholding the “historical Agreed Position.” It is important to clarify that this obligation should not be misconstrued as a hereditary duty, it added.
It expressed concern at recent actions taken by certain individuals who, “without the knowledge or consent of the signatories to the Agreed Position, appointed a Convener and Working Convener.” “The decision to appoint MB Neokpao Konyak as Convener of the new Working Committee for a three-year term, driven by vested interests, suggests an intention to prolong the solution process,” it alleged.
“This is particularly disheartening considering the urgent desire of the Naga people for a timely solution,” it said, and advised “self-serving ambitions to refrain from exploiting the positive reputation of the NNPGS/Working Committee for personal gain.”
