The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) councillors led by its chairperson, Neikhozo Suokhrie and deputy chairperson, Khrielievi Chiisi today visited the landslide site at Pezielietsie colony in Kohima. The landslide, which occurred three days back, affected around 20 households. At least four houses were badly damaged and while several other houses were partially damage due to landslide.
After verifying the site, KMC chairperson Neikhozo Suokhrie told the media persons that the KMC will discuss the matter with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and will propose a pilot project on this landslide affected area for construction of protection wall and proper drainage system. We will meet CM in a few days, he added.
KMC councilor, Ruokuovolie Rutsa from North Block Ward recalled that a massive landslide occurred in the same area in 2017. Unfortunately, another landslide re-occurred three days ago, affecting around 20 families. We are also trying from our level to assist them, he said.
SDRF personnel also visited the site on July 25. Colony residents and neighbours also came forward to assist the affected families. Meanwhile, Pezielietsie Colony Welfare Board chairman, Roko Angami thanked the KMC councillors for showing their concern to the affected families.
