KOHIMA, AUGUST 10 (MExN): Kohima College Kohima celebrated its 58th Foundation Day on August 9 with a programme at the College Courtyard, bringing together family members of the founding members, faculty, students, alumni and dignitaries.

The celebration was graced by Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, former Minister of the Government of Nagaland and son of Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Angami, one of the four founding members of Kohima College.

Chairing the programme, Dr. Konei Nakhro, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science, called the day “a day of pride, gratitude, and appreciation in the college’s journey of education,” and recalled the foresight of the founding fathers in recognising the need to provide education, especially to students from economically backward backgrounds.

Following the College Anthem, Principal Dr. Vitsosie Vüprü, in his welcome address, acknowledged the founding members for building the college into what it is today. He described the day as an occasion to honour student achievements, reflect on the blessings upon the institution, and commit to striving for greater heights. He also highlighted recent successes of students in securing high ranks in Nagaland University examinations, crediting the accomplishments to the “tireless efforts of faculty, staff, and stakeholders,” and noting that the commemoration should serve as encouragement for present students.

The celebration featured musical performances, including “The Climb” by alumna Vikuyole Tase (Batch of 2020) and “One Moment in Time” by Ms. Neilaü Thaprü (Batch of 2020).

C. Vezholu Kotso, alumna and Assistant Professor, offered words of gratitude, reflecting on her journey as a student and later as a member of the faculty, and shared how deeply she valued the memories and life lessons the college had imparted.

The Annual Academic Awards Ceremony, organised by the IQAC, recognised outstanding students with Scholar Badges, Departmental Awards, the Dr. Satuo Sekhose Star Pupil Award 2025, and University Topper recognitions. Faculty members were also felicitated for publishing in UGC-Care listed and reputed international journals.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Kire paid tribute to his late father, recalling him as a lifelong advocate for education and sharing personal anecdotes about his vision, perseverance and love for learning. Addressing students, he urged them to uphold the “Four D’s” — Discipline, Devotion, Dedication and Determination — and to remember the “Three T’s” — Things Take Time — as guiding principles for success.

The programme concluded with a prayer by Rev. Dr. Azatho Kiba, Senior Pastor of New Life Church and alumnus of the college, who invoked blessings for its continued growth and success.
