Leader of Opposition TR Zeliang questions fund diversion

An amount of Rs. 198 Crore has been sanctioned for the much touted Kohima Smart City project, informed Nagaland Rural Development Minister, Metsubo Jamir today at the floor of the NLA. 


Replying to a question by MLA Yitachu, the Minister said that from the amount sanctioned, Rs. 113 Crore has been released till date.


On being asked about the completed and ongoing works, the Minister informed that that the KMC and Smart City office projects have been completed.


The ongoing projects include beautification of Kohima town phase-1, multi level car parking at Old Medical Directorate, multi level car parking at Old NST, Capital cultural hall, re-development of Old Assembly secretariat Phase-1, parking & community hall at New Market, Integrated Command & Control Centre and Wi-Fi for Kohima city.


Jamir informed that out of the released amount, Rs. 77.90 Crore has been spent so far from the project fund.


Opposition leader, TR Zeliang meanwhile queried on the diversion of funds from the Smart City Project without proper written approval from the center to fund projects like the Multi Level Car Parking at Old Medical Directorate and Old NST and the Capital Cultural Hall which was started under different project plans and left incomplete.


He further said that the Kohima Smart City Project might come under jeopardy owing to such fund diversions without proper written approval from the Center.


Jamir responded that the diversion of funds was done with proper approval of the State Government and informed that there was an urgent need for parking facilities in the State capital to ease traffic congestion.


He further acknowledged the need to get proper written approval from the center for such fund diversions and promised the house that the concerned department would look into the issue and get written approval at the earliest.
