Kohima, June 20 (MExN): Three-day training on sustainability of groundwater sources got underway at the office of Chief Engineer, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Kohima on June 20. The programme is sponsored by Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR and Central Ground Water Board, North Eastern Region, Guwahati.
An update received here stated that Jal Jeevan mission-Har Ghar Jal, implemented by Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India aims to provide safe drinking water to each and every household in India. However, sustainability of groundwater source especially in hard rock terrains face challenges. The groundwater reservoir aquifer systems need to be rejuvenated by making the sources sustainable.
Following the SoPs of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, CGWB, NER Guwahati imparted trainings to engineers of PHED, Nagaland on the source sustainability.
The inaugural session was graced by Er Vikeduolie Mepfhuo, Superintendent Engineer, Kohima Circle, PHED as chief guest and Er Ichirang Zeliang, Executive Engineer Sanitation and WSSO, PHED as the guest of honour. Anenuo Pienyu, Scientist-C, CGWB chaired the inaugural session and vote of thanks was proposed by Shasinlo Kent, Scientist-C, CGWB.
In the first session, Arijit Mitra, Scientist C, CGWB highlighted the concepts of hydrogeology and aquifer system. It was followed by presentation by Shasinlo Kent, Scientist C, CGWB on hydrogeology of Nagaland with special reference to Springs. Aneinuo Pienyii, Scientist-C, CGWB talked on SoP of source sustainability of groundwater sources and risk assessment. Hands on session of water gap assessment under Jal Jeevan Mission and risk assessment of village was done. Chao Kongseng Gogoim Scientist- C led a hand on session on toposheet reading and demarcation of watershed boundary.
The programme will continue till June 22.
