MON, FEBRUARY 27 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) has urged all parties involved in the ongoing deadlock between the State Government and the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) to reach a mutual understanding and bring the matter to a logical and just resolution.
In a statement, the KU expressed concern over the current situation and stressed on the need to avoid further confusion that could hinder progress on the long-awaited Foothills Road project.
“The KU remains deeply concerned about the situation and is making every effort to understand and resolve the complexities involved,” the statement read. The Union acknowledged “the sacrifices, dedication, and relentless efforts of the NFHRCC, whose struggle has now borne fruit with the approval and sanctioning of this very important project.” It also extended gratitude to the State Government “for recognizing the importance of the Foothills Road and taking the initiative to implement it.”
Describing the project as a “long-cherished dream of the people,” the KU noted that its realization should be a cause for celebration rather than conflict. However, it pointed to the ongoing disagreement over the contract agreement between the State Government and the NFHRCC as a pressing concern.
“The KU firmly believes that this important project should not be delayed or obstructed by any party,” the Union stated, while also acknowledging the NFHRCC’s intent to ensure quality infrastructure as well as the State Government’s responsibilities in executing the project. “However, the KU cannot afford to let this impasse continue without a just and logical resolution.”
The Union urged its representatives within the NFHRCC to “place their trust in the wisdom and leadership of the KU.” It reaffirmed its commitment to working collectively to ensure the project’s successful implementation within Konyak jurisdiction.
“To this end, the KU will actively supervise and oversee the execution of the project, ensuring strict compliance with the Detailed Project Report (DPR),” the statement said. It added that to maintain accountability and transparency, contractors will be required to reach an agreement with the KU, committing to adherence to the DPR.
“All action plans, verification, and inspections can be conducted jointly by the KU, KU representatives of NFHRCC members and the department concerned,” the Union stated, adding that such a collective approach should “put an end to the impasse within the Konyak jurisdiction and the contractors start the work immediately without any hindrance.”
