KU questions delay in works for Mon medical college

MON, FEBRUARY 14 (MExN): The Konyak Union (KU) has questioned why developmental works for the medical college in Mon are still kept in abeyance.

While appreciating the Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio for “his visionary steps and initiative for establishment of the Medical College at the remotest district of Mon,” a press release from the KU expressed concern at the delay in works despite the Central Government already sanctioning the requisite budget for development of the said project.

It appealed to the Central and the State Governments to expedite the developmental works as sanctioned and mentioned in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) without delay.

The KU reminded that the foundation laying ceremony/inauguration for establishment of medical college at Mon was formally launched by the then Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan in the presence of Chief Minister, Health and Family Minister, Council of Ministers and MLAs of the Government of Nagaland on February 26, 2021.

The KU applauded the citizens of Mon village for offering sufficient site for establishment of the medical college in the interest of the community. “Such matured decisions and act shall definitely go down in the history and prays that the Almighty blesses its generation of Mon Village in manifold ways,” it added.

The union however said that when almost a year had elapsed, there is no sign of any progress made from the State Government even after all land settlement issues and necessary process had been resolved as per the directives of the State Government.

On October 18, 2021, the KU had made a fervent appeal before the State Government to expedite for speedy completion of the project. “However, the snail pace attitude of the concerned authority in power tends to question about the attitude towards the noble project,” it said.

The KU called upon the State Government and the concerned department to “exert its enthusiasm in delivering the aspired trust towards the people as promised for humanitarian cause and justice.”
