The Lotha Middle Range Students' Union (LMRSU) suspended its agitation against the poor handling of a road development project under the PMGSY-II. The road project, covering a length of 18 km from Sanis Zero Point to L akhuti Road and approved at a cost of Rs 1542.88 lakh, was contracted to M/S North East Enterprises and was originally slated to be completed on or before March 2022, as per the work agreement.

The agitation, which started on March 18 in the area covered by the Lotha Middle Range, was suspended following assurance from the contractor and the PWD (Roads and Bridges).
During the protest, today, a public meeting was convened at the Sanis Zero Point, which was attended by the “Prime Contractor,” Akato Zhimomi of M/S Northeast Enterprise and the Executive Engineer, Sanis Division, PWD (R&B), Kuhovi Sema.

At the meeting, the LMRSU expressed dismay at alleged bill payments by the PWD without proper assessment of work.

It highlighted that although more than 90 percent of the sanctioned amount had been disbursed to the contractor, only a stretch of 4 km has been completed so far.

While the public demanded written assurance for completing the project before the onset of the rainy season, it also assured full support to the authorities once the work commences. It made clear that any further delay would not be tolerated.

In response to the public demand, the contractor and the EE gave a written assurance, committing to resume work on March 25 and to completing the road before April 30, 2024.Consequent to the assurance, LMRSU suspended the agitation at 2:00 pm, March 18.
