Dimapur, June 4 (MExN): The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has urged the Nagaland Government to review the lockdown measures and strengthen them instead of relaxing the same. DAYO expressed concern that relaxation may lead to community spreading “which Nagaland in general and Dimapur in particular is not well equipped to handle.” In this regard, the Organisation termed the calls for relaxation of markets and other places of congregation ‘detrimental and suicidal’ in the fight against COVID-19, and requested the government and the public to take these genuine concerns into consideration for the safety and well-being of all.
In a separate statement, DAYO has also requested landlords, land lease holders and government housing projects in Dimapur to exempt or reduce all rents during the pandemic. It stated that most people have either closed down their businesses or stopped working, which is making it difficult for them to pay rent.
Maintaining that it is equally concerned about those who depend on this rent for their livelihood, the DAYO suggested that an understanding of some sort be worked out between the landlords and the tenants, on humanitarian grounds.
It also expressed gratitude to the landowners who have waived off the rents of their tenants.
