Longleng observes World Day against Trafficking

Longleng, July 31 (MExN): The Longleng district administration, Sakhi-One Stop Centre, in collaboration with Phomla Hoichem observed World Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, under the theme ‘Use and Abuse of Technology.’

According to a DIPR report, theme speaker M Chingong, Literature Secretary, Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA), emphasised on the advantages and disadvantages of technology. She said that excessive use of technology leads to negative impacts as users often tend to prioritise technology over family, friends and work, thereby, adversely affecting relationships and other commitments. She encouraged the gathering to use social media platform responsibly and productively, it said.

Advocate Mane Phom, Authority LDLSA spoke on the topic ‘Prevention and Protection of Human Trafficking’ and underlined that the District Administration, Government Departments and NGOs alone cannot fight against trafficking. We, as responsible citizens, should come forward and report such cases if prevails in our society, he said, while also highlighting on the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956.

Earlier the program was chaired by Shandimoinyie A Phom, Case worker (OSC) while welcome address was delivered by M Mano Phom, President, Phomla Hoichem. In conclusion, vote of thanks was pronounced by C Henchem Phom, Centre Administration (OSC) and the programme ended with a mass prayer, the DIPR report stated.
