KOHIMA (MExN): Come December 16, a mass marriage will be conducted at Losami Baptist Church around 15 Kms away from Phek district headquarters.
Ten couples will tie the knot on that auspicious day. Mass marriage has been practiced in many parts of the district. Many prefer to get married off in this manner given the huge expenses involved in organizing a marriage ceremony. This appears to be a perfect way to minimize the marriage burden on the families.
Source told The Morung Express that each couple will not have to spend more than Rs 10,000. Uniform budget will be maintained for all those getting married, it was informed. Another interesting component of this ceremony to be noted is that, the couples would use the same dress code. Community feast would be arranged on that day through the collective fund, it is learnt.
“Such mass marriage should become the rule in future because the high cost of living has itself put a serious strain on families who have to bear a heavy burden at the time of marrying off their children”, notes a social worker.
