Dimapur, June 8 (MExN): The Mayangnokcha Award Trust (MAT) has taken another step which it perceives will be a paradigm shift in the concept of school education. MAT since 1994 has been involved in recognizing meritorious students in Nagaland.
Emphasizing the importance of imparting education based on skill and value, MAT together with the govt. of Nagaland on May 29 launched a project toward assessing the schools in the state towards this end. The project is being carried out under the state government’s year long programme of ‘Capacity building’.
The project was formally launched at Kohima on May 29 with Bendangkokba, Addl. Secretary, Education, Govt. of Nagaland, as the chief guest and Nini Meru, chairman NBSE, as the guest of honour.
Er. Moa Aier project coordinator and Supongasang secretary MAT in a joint press release informed that initially the project will be implemented in the districts of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung this year.
To familiarize the schools of the entire process of the programme, MAT is all set to hold orientation programmes at the headquaters of the three districts.
The first phase of orientation will be held for Mokokchung and Dimapur districts on June 10 and 12 respectively.
The orientation at Mokokchung will be held at Longkumer Kilem from 11:00 am with Phutoli, L Jamir, Deputy Director, School Education, Govt. of Nagaland as the chief guest. Around 45 schools of the district are expected to participate at the introductory orientation.
At Dimapur, the orientation programme will be held on June 12 at DC Conferenece Hall from 11:00 am. to 1:00 pm with Vipralhou Keisiezie, Director, SCERT, as the chief guest and Maongwati Aier DC, Dimapur as the guest of honour, MAT informed.
Giving the idea behind this project MAT stated: “It has also been our long standing view that academic marks, obtained by learners in formal examinations alone do not reflect the complete meaning of education, because to cultivate a worthy citizen through formal education, the process should be ‘Skill and Value’ based as well.”
At the backdrop of this view, MAT is making an endeavour to assess the schools in the State which MAT stated, through this “we sincerely believe, will bring about impartation of an all round quality education.”
MAT has expressed optimism that all schools and some designated NGO’s who have been notified would attend the orientation programme “acknowledging the paramount need for a paradigm shift in the concept of school education.”
