Medical colony in Bhandari wins cleanest ward

Wokha, July 5 (MExN): Medical colony in Bhandari town was awarded the cleanest ward during awareness generation and sensitization cum felicitation programme held at the Town Hall, Bhandari on July 5. Etsü colony won the second prize. The award was organized by the Department of Urban Development, stated a DIPR report. 

Speaking in the programme, ADC Bhandari, Rohit Singh, IAS called upon the public and the leaders to cooperate with the initiative of the district administration, and the town council to participate and play a proactive role in achieving the vision of zero waste generation in Bhandari. Observing that ‘a clean environment and healthy life are interdependent for a healthy society,’ he said that ‘community participation was important.’

He also stated that under the Swachh Bharat Mission, systematic waste management, disposal, or recycling of eco-friendly waste generated through daily human activities will be implemented soon.

He cautioned against the use of Single Use Plastic (SUP) and encouraged alternative products which are eco-friendly and less hazardous to health.

EAC & nodal officer SUP, BTC, Rohbi Sangtam who spoke on introduction on Swachh Bharat Mission & Waste Management, spoke on the environmental and health benefits and importance of waste management, individual and public health sanitation, segregation of waste, etc. He appealed to the public, churches, and student leaders to continue to create awareness and sensitize the public for achieving a free open defecation zone in their respective areas and colonies.

Inviting like-minded people to join a club that will be opened soon, he said that the club will work to achieve an eco-friendly, clean, and waste-free environment.

Father Rhanben Matthew, Principal DHSS led in pledging to clean Bhandari. President, LLRPO, President, Eloe Hoho, Chairman BTLHH, and Head GB also spoke on the occasion. The programme was chaired by EAC Bhandari, Wetsho Lasushe.
