Minister for Health & Family Welfare, P Paiwang Konyak, announced a series of healthcare projects for the District Hospital in Zunheboto on June 25. He urged all stakeholders to cooperate in turning these projects into reality.
The Minister is currently on a state-wide tour and visited Zunheboto as part of the Viksit Nagaland for Viksit Bharat initiative.
After inspecting the hospital, Paiwang held a meeting with tribal leaders and civil society organizations, during which the new projects were announced. The projects include the ongoing construction of the District Hospital Zunheboto, flat-type staff quarters, an Urban Public Health Centre, an Integrated Public Health Laboratory, and a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) building. Other developments include a nursing school, a 30-bedded AYUSH hospital, a new PHC building at Pughoboto, construction of Satoi PHC, Sukomi Sub-Centre, Hebolimi Sub-Centre, MO quarters at Hoshepu and Satakha, and staff quarters at Xukhepu.
Local leaders urged to ensure hospital meets 2025 deadline
The Minister expressed concern over the slow progress of the new hospital construction and reminded everyone that the department does not support extending project deadlines, as it leads to cost escalation.
He appealed to the local MLA, tribal bodies, and political party workers to ensure the hospital project is completed within the stipulated deadline of December 2025. He emphasised that no further extension would be granted beyond this date.
He also informed that the tour was initiated after consultations with senior leaders at both the state and central levels, including the Governor of Nagaland.
Speaking about the Prime Minister’s vision for Viksit Bharat, Paiwang Konyak said that India must be fully developed by 2047 and Nagaland cannot afford to fall behind in the healthcare sector. He expressed hope for improved health facilities in Zunheboto district.
Addressing the shortage of medical staff, Paiwang said he was confident the issue would be resolved once NPSC completes the recruitment process. He also mentioned that current MBBS students would join the department after completing their education under the terms of the surety bond.
The Minister highlighted other important issues such as proper use of funds, registration under CMHIS and Ayushman Bharat, strict adherence to OPD timings, closing of unlicensed pharmacies, and active participation in the TB elimination campaign.
He stressed that even with improved infrastructure the hospital would not function properly unless citizens use the available healthcare services.
