The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson and former Nagaland MLA, Mmhonlümo Kikon, has tendered his resignation from the “primary and active membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party and all party post.”
“After careful thought and deep introspection, I write to tender my resignation from the primary and active membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party, with immediate effect,” Kikon stated in his resignation letter addressed to the President of the Nagaland State Unit on August 7.
This brings the curtain down on over a decade of association of the former Advisor to the Government of Nagaland with the national party.
“Since joining the BJP more than a decade ago, I have had the honour of serving the party and contributing to its growth and activities in various capacities and responsibilities entrusted to me. My association with the party has been a deeply enriching experience, having served as Prabhari of Mizoram State and also as National Spokesperson,” he added in the letter.
However, Kikon stated that it is time for him to “step back and recalibrate my journey.”
“My decision is guided by the need to explore new avenues of public engagement and policy work, which I believe will allow me to continue contributing to society in different ways,” he added.
He further expressed gratitude to the party, its leaders, and colleagues for the opportunities extended over the years and also wished a “blessed time” to the BJP Nagaland State Unit.
When queried by The Morung Express regarding his next move, Kikon said, “Will take some time out.”
Kikon was first elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 2013 from the 40 Bhandari Assembly Constituency and retained the seat in 2018. However, he lost the 2023 election.
Alongside his political career, Kikon has also established himself as a noted writer from Nagaland and the North East, having published three books of poems and a historical work. His latest book, “His Majesty’s Headhunters” was published by Penguin Random House in 2023.
