Mokokchung district to implement plastic ban

DC prohibits Single-Use Plastic in official functions 

Mokokchung, June 30 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS has informed all concerned that as per the Government of Nagaland notification on ban on Single-Use Plastics (SUPs), the identified items which have low utility and high littering potential are prohibited.

A DIPR report stated that the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale, and use of carry bags made of virgin or recycled plastic shall not be less than 75 microns in thickness from September 30, 2021 and 120 microns in thickness from December 31, 2022. Further, a non-woven plastic bag shall not be less than 60 grams per square meter (GSM) from September 30, 2022.

The manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale, and use of the following single-use plastic including polystyrene and expanded polystyrene commodities shall be prohibited from July 1, 2022, Earbuds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, polystyrene (Thermocol) for decoration. Plates, cups, glasses, cutlery such as forks, spoons knives, straws, trays, wrapping or packing films around sweet boxes, invitation cards and cigarette packets, plastic or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) banners less than 100 microns. All other clauses mandated in the “Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016” and “Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2021`” should be strictly adhered to.

Therefore, all individuals, institutions, and commercial establishments have been directed to strictly adhere to and implement the same in true spirit in their respective establishments/jurisdictions. As resolved in the DPDB meeting on April 14, all the heads of offices in the Mokokchung district have been directed to ensure that no Single-Use Plastic is used in any official functions.

The District administration and Sub-Divisional Administration/Urban Local Bodies shall decide and levy penalties against the defaulters in their jurisdiction. A District Task Force has been constituted to strictly monitor and function as Squad for vigilance purposes.
