The Longsa Music Carnival, organised by the Longsa Music Club, was inaugurated on Thursday at Longsa village, Mokokchung. The two-day event was inaugurated by Rongsennungba, Director of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Department, Nagaland; Kohima.
Rongsennungba applauded the organising committee’s initiative, envisioning the music carnival as a catalyst for socio-economic development. Emphasising its role in promoting tourism and generating revenue for Longsa’s status as a Tourist Village, he suggested its integration into the annual calendar and extension to the Mini Hornbill festival.
He encouraged affiliating the music carnival with art and culture, emphasising that it’s not solely about music but also crucial for cultural development. He also suggested affiliating with the Tourism Department for uplifting the tourism sector and also recommended connecting with TaFMA to promote music in the state.
Recognising the lack of industries in the hamlet, he emphasized the importance of music production in music industries, promoting its promotion in numerous disciplines. During celebrations, he called for historical and musical promotion, as well as socio-economic development, emphasizing unity, strength, peace, and the advancement of knowledge.
Temsu Jamir, Convenor of the organizing committee, highlighted the festival's focus on promoting music, nurturing talent, and showcasing cultural diversity globally. The music carnival, intended to become an annual event, aims to uplift music lovers, nurture talent, and provide cultural heritage tourism opportunities.
Chairman of Longsa Village Council, Talichuba Pongen, welcomed the initiative, encouraging the youth to showcase their talent and uplift Longsa Village.
The carnival features diverse competitions and performances. Day 1 event featured competitions in original songs, “Aong Aten” (a women's empowerment folk song/women's chanting), “Ola” (sound), junior solo, and “Meyutsü” (call and response folk song), as well as patriotic songs. There was an open stage for Longsa artists and a concert for Longsa stars.
The carnival will culminate on January 5 with Imotemjen, Joint Director of Horticulture Department, Nagaland Kohima, as the closing patron. The second day of the event will witness performances from anchor bands including Huntingboots/Mingletones and main bands like The Spectrums, Stereo Groove, Ark Covenant, and Decorum Disaster.
