Mokokchung police investigating minor sexual assault case

MOKOKCHUNG, AUGUST 12 (MExN): The Mokokchung police informed that the accused in the sexual assault of a 3 year-old girl in Saring village was in custody. Two days after the alleged incident, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, issued a statement on August 12, informing that the accused, one Moakaba Aier was a ‘sergeant’ in the NSCN-K (Khango). 

It informed that the police received the FIR on August 11 informing about the incident, which allegedly occurred on August 10.

The accused was subsequently arrested and booked under section 65(2) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita or Indian Justice Code) alongwith section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case was being investigated by the Women Police Station, Mokokchung. 

The alleged sexual assault occurred on the evening of August 10 and the accused was apprehended by the villagers, to be later handed over to the police. As per the FIR filed by the victim’s parent at the Longchem Police Station, the incident came to light after the victim complained of pain.

The accused, in an alleged confession to the village authority before he was handed over to the police, admitted to sexually assaulting the 3 year-old victim.
