Mon & Charaideo CSOs commit to fostering peace, harmony

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 29 (MExN): Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from Mon district, Nagaland, and Charaideo district, Assam convened a meeting at the Konyak Union Office, Tizit Unit on September 29. The meeting was organized by the Konyak Union, Mon with the aim of fostering peace, unity, and strengthening the relationship between the Ahom/Assamese people and Konyak Naga people.

The CSOs from Mon district was represented by Konyak Union, Konyak Students Union and Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) while from Charaideo district, Assam, representatives of Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA), Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) and All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU) attended the meeting. 

A joint press statement issued by the CSOs of Mon and Charaideo districts informed that during the meeting, it was resolved that all matters or incidents that may occur on either side, shall be first communicated to the counterpart CSOs before executing any actions independently. This open and transparent communication will enable both sides to address issues promptly and amicably.

Any incident or crime that may arise on either side shall not be taken as a communal issue. Instead, both sides will commit to working together to address such matters legally, adhering to the provisions of the law. This approach will ensure that justice prevails and that conflicts are resolved in a fair and unbiased manner.

While recognizing the importance of maintaining regular communication and coordination between our organizations, the joint meeting decided to hold time-to-time coordination meetings as and when required. These meetings will serve as platforms for discussing emerging issues, sharing information, and strengthening our partnership.

In regard to the unfortunate incident/accident at Angjangyang, Mon district on September 23, where one driver and handyman from Charaideo, Assam lost their lives; it was resolved that in the event the awaited forensic report linked the incident to murder, both the CSOs shall pressurize the district administration and police for a prompt investigation to apprehend the culprit(s) at the earliest.

Further resolutions and action points shall be discussed and mutually agreed upon in subsequent meeting where a Joint Action Committee shall be formed to ensure the continued progress of the collaborative efforts in promoting peace, unity, and harmonious relations between our communities. The date for the next meeting is fixed on October 10, it informed. 

“This resolution signifies our dedication to fostering a peaceful and cooperative relationship between our communities, transcending borders and differences for the greater good,” the joint press statement read.
