Mon civil societies discusses COVID-19 concerns

Mon, June 2 (MExN): A meeting was convened by Pohwang Konyak, Advisor Fire and Emergency Services, SIRD and Relief & Rehabilitation at DC’s conference hall, Mon on May 30. 


A DIPR report stated that the house discussed on the preparedness of the district for the returnees, check the price fluctuations of essential commodities, transfer and movement of security forces from the outside of the state, involvement and coordination of churches in the dissemination of information to the public. The civil societies voiced out their concern regarding the transfer of security forces from outside the state and requested for mandatory institutional quarantine.


The civil societies also requested the state government to get approval from the central government so that relief materials may be distributed to the Konyak villages across the international border. The increasing price of essential commodities in the neighboring state is a matter of concern. Therefore, the house requested the state government to intervene so as to normalise the prices.


The District Surveillance Officer, Mon apprised the house on pooled sample testing of all the returnees and the transformation of two Ambulances into mobile sample collection (KIOSK) for collection of throat nasal swabs from the quarantine centres. The Medical Superintendent and District Hospital apprised the house on the medical facilities and equipments donated by the DTF and also the urgent need to find more alternative buildings to function as district hospital annexe for the general patients since the existing hospital has been converted to a COVID-19 hospital. 


Advisor DUDA, N Bongkhao and MLA, Thongwang also attended the meeting.
