Jalukie, May 19 (MExN): A total of 35 players successfully completed a month-long intensive women’s football coaching camp organised by the Peren District Football Association (PDFA) at the Astro-Turf Ground, Jalukie Town.
The camp, which began on April 14, concluded on May 17. Participants received rigorous training under the guidance of Luihingbe, PDFA technical member, assisted by Kereluipeule, the association’s women’s coordinator.
According to a press release from the PDFA, although the camp initially had 30 registration slots, more than 40 players were accommodated due to overwhelming interest. To maintain the quality of training, some participants were later screened out based on attendance and commitment, resulting in 35 players successfully completing the programme.
The participants ranged in age from 10 to 26 years old.
Coach Luihingbe observed that while football in Nagaland is growing, greater attention must now be given to nurturing young girls. “To truly support their talent, we must first change the mindset of parents. They are the gatekeepers of their children’s interests, and without their support, even the most passionate players cannot pursue their dreams,” he stated.
Echoing this sentiment, Assistant Coach Kereluipeule noted that unlike previous years, this camp saw increased parental support for girls in football. Many families also expressed interest in enrolling their children in future training programmes.
During the closing function, certificates sponsored by Dibam Domta, PDFA media team, were awarded to all participants. Jerseys were also presented to the most promising and disciplined players, respectively sponsored by Keheinam PDFA technical member and former district player P Doson.
The release also informed Dr Mongzeung Mpom, Pastor of Jalukie Town Local Baptist Church regularly visited the camp and encouraged as well as offered prayers for their success.
Several players reportedly displayed exceptional talent throughout the camp, and PDFA noted they deserve consideration for selection in the state team.
The association expressed optimism about the future of women’s football in the region and reiterated its commitment to nurturing young talent through such initiatives.
