MoU signed between IPRS and TaFMA

A memorandum of Understanding was signed between Indian Performing Right Society Limited  and Task Force of Music & Arts (TaFMA) Nagaland in Kohima on April 4.

The MoU was exchanged between the two in presence of Abu Metha, advisor to Chief Minister of Nagaland during IPRS Workshop in Kohima on April 4.

The IPRS is committed to protecting the rights of authors, composers, and publishers of music, and fostering a sustainable revenue stream through licensing and royalties for music creators across India.

TaFMA is dedicated to promoting and supporting talent in the NorthEast region of India and organizing cultural initiatives and conferences centred on music and artists from the region.

The primary objective of this MOU is to support and promote talent from the state of Nagaland.

It also to establish a collaborative relationship wherein IPRS will associate with TaFMA in their cultural initiatives and conferences centred on music and the artists from Nagaland.

To ensure that IPRS is an integral part of the Hornbill Festival, and to explore innovative ways of association at the festival, engaging with creators and music promoters from the region.

To work jointly towards building a robust mechanism for licensing and royalty collection in the state of Nagaland, creating a sustainable source of revenue for music creators and publishers, to build awareness of creator's rights and the role of copyright societies/copyright management bodies like IPRS.

To collaborate with TaFMA in expanding IPRS's footprint in the region, boosting enrolment and engagement with the society, to spread knowledge and understanding ofcopyrights, royalties, and music business trends in the digital age through joint efforts.

The MoU stated that IPRS and TaFMA will collaborate to identify and empower rising musical talent from the state of Nagaland through scouting programs, competitions, etc.

Joint initiatives and programs will be developed to provide platforms and opportunities for these artists to showcase their talents.
This could include artist showcases at TaFMA's events, sponsored performances at festivals, or online promotion through IPRS's channels.
On Cultural Initiatives and Conferences, IPRS will participate in TaFMA's cultural initiatives and conferences, offering expertise and support.

Collaborative events will be organized to highlight the music and cultural heritage of the North-East region.

IPRS will play an integral role in the Hornbill Music Festival by actively engaging with music creators and promoters.

IPRS and TaFMA will collaborate to develop innovative initiatives that elevate the festival experience and showcase the talent of local musicians.

TaFMA will actively promote its partnership with IPRS at the Hornbill Music Festival and similar events.

TaFMA will ensure that the IPRS name and the IPRS trademarks/brand and /or IPRS Logo is included and prominently displayed on all TaFMA's promotional materials (including social media posts, videos and audio advertisements if any, such as standees, posters, stalls, signage and event stage backdrops/screens.)

TaFMA, will support IPRS in developing a robust and comprehensive licensing and royalty collection infrastructure for the region. This may involve joint advocacy efforts to educate music users about the importance of licensing and ensure compliance with Intellectual Property Laws.

TaFMA and IPRS will jointly focus on educating and incentivizing music users and businesses to participate actively in this system. This initiative ensures creators and publishers receive fair compensation for their work.

TaFMA will secure a license or cause licenses to be secured from IPRS for commercial events organized which include the exploitation of musical works and associated literary works for live acoustic performances or as part of sound recordings and/or audio-visual recordings.

The MoU was signed by IPRS CEO Rakesh Nigam and TaFMA project director Dr. Hovithal Sothu.
